Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen/Teen Princess pageants to be held on Saturday, March 15 in Martin, TN

Martin, TN – August 23, 2007 - Miss Tennessee Teen Pageant Organization and the City of Martin announced today that the 3rd annual Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen Competition will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 6pm in Martin, Tennessee.

The Miss Tennessee Organization, along with the University of Tennessee at Martin’s David Belote and Martin Mayor Randy Brundige are proud to welcome contestants from around the state to the competition taking place for the first time at its new location.  The Harriet Fulton Performing Art Theatre in the Fine Arts Building on the beautiful campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin will host the event.

Current titleholders
Devin Grissom, Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen and Sloane Bradberry, Tennessee’s Teen Princess are scheduled to attend along with other special guests. Teen Organization Executive Director, Tim Fickey said “The show will feature the Outstanding Teen contestants competing in fitness wear, scholastic achievement, evening gown and talent.  The Teen Princess contestants will complete in fitness wear and evening gown.  Both groups will have a private judges interview earlier in the day and you will get to know more about them during the show as they answer an onstage question.”  The deadline for entering the competition is February 23, 2008 and the entry fee is $400.

The winner of the Outstanding Teen competition will be awarded scholarship funds for her college or graduate school education. In addition, she will receive the opportunity to compete for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in Orlando on August 7-12, 2008 as well as other prizes.  During her year of service, Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen could travel across Tennessee, speaking to government officials, business leaders, community groups and Tennesseans about her platform issue and encouraging them to become involved in her cause.

A savings bond will be awarded to the Tennessee Princess.

Several local preliminary pageants are scheduled which lead contestants to the state pageant.  The pageants are listed on the Miss Tennessee website at www.MissTennessee.org.  A local title is not required to compete in the state pageant; however, it could be beneficial with assisting in your entry fee and other support.

“I have enjoyed my year of service as Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen and am proud to have traveled around Tennessee, raising awareness for
Mentoring and the organizations for which I have worked,” Devin Grissom said. “I am confident that the leadership skills I have gained from this experience will be beneficial as I pursue my education and community service.”

“The new Tennessee Outstanding Teen will not only serve as a role model for young women and as an ambassador for the Miss America Organization, she will also urge young women to develop their own leadership skills and take an active role in their communities,” Fickey said.  “In the first three national competitions, Tennessee has placed in the Top 10 or won a preliminary competition award, a fantastic way to start the Tennessee branch of the Miss America program.  We anticipate that same caliber in this year’s competition.”
